Well known character actress K Callan is in Atlanta working with Tyler Perry on his new series “Meet the Browns”. K is represented by Martin Gage at the Gage group in Los Angeles.

If you have not had the opportunity to read K’s books, I strongly urge you to purchase them on SWEDENPRESS, Amazon, Barnes and Noble or wherever her books are sold. K Callan’s book are groundbreaking and the first to explore the business of being an “actorpreneur”.

Meg Liberman, one of the leading independent casting directors in television and film has joined CBS Paramount Network Television as Senior Vice President, Casting, it was announced today by Peter Golden, Executive Vice President, Talent and Casting, CBS Paramount Television Group.

In her new position, Liberman will oversee the day-to-day casting for all CBS Paramount Network Television programs.

In making the announcement Golden stated, “Meg is one of the top casting directors in the business. She has incredible relationships with writers, directors, agents and fellow casting directors, and she has an encyclopedic knowledge of actors. I am thrilled she has chosen to leave the independent world to join the executive ranks at CBS Paramount Network Television.”

Liberman has been nominated for 10 Emmy Awards, winning with former partner Marc Hirschfeld for the HBO miniseries “From the Earth to the Moon” in 1998, and with current partner Cami Patton for “Band of Brothers” in 2002. Other Emmy Award nominations include “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” (2007), “The Path to 9/11″ (2006), “Into The West” (2005), “The Comeback” (2005), “Pushing Daisies” (2008), and multiple nods for “Seinfeld”. Additionally, she has won eight Casting Society Of America Artios Awards for shows such as “The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd,” “Seinfeld,” “The Larry Sanders Show,” and “Third Rock From The Sun” and with Cami Patton “Dilbert” and “Band of Brothers”. Liberman/Patton’s most recent casting credits include “Pushing Daisies,” “Caprica,” “The Pacific” (for HBO, produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks) and the new series “The Philanthropist.”

On the feature side, Liberman/Patton cast one of the most successful independent films of all time, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” and Liberman produced cult favorite “Playing By Heart,” starring Angelina Jolie and Sean Connery.

Liberman founded her own company in 1984, Meg Liberman Casting, before she partnered with Marc Hirschfeld from 1987 to 1999. When he left to become the Executive Vice President of Casting for NBC, she formed a new successful partnership with Cami Patton that has been going strong for the past nine years.

Liberman succeeds current casting topper Sheila Guthrie, who will be leaving CBS Paramount to return to her independent casting career. Added Golden, ” Sheila’s a longtime member of the CBS Paramount family, and has played an integral role in our success. She’s highly respected and beloved by the executives and the community alike, and we’re looking forward to continuing our relationship with her as she returns to her roots as an independent casting director.”

CBS Paramount Network Television (formerly Paramount Television) is a television broadcasting company owned by the CBS Corporation (formerly Viacom) that currently holds the production rights of any future Star Trek television series. This company was formed as the result of a 2005 split between the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) and Viacom, the latter of which owned Paramount Television. It is a division of CBS Studios, which owns the trademarks for Star Trek and all related marks.

I recently ran upon an article in Daily Variety with a listing of all the awards that are presented to all the members of the Entertainment community. Honestly, if they were broadcast on TV, there could be one award show per week.

They might as well start a TV network devoted to awards for actors, and those who work with them.

In today’s Daily Variety, the special section, “Women’s Impact Report: Specialists” they interview prominent casting director Francine Maisler, who was one of the first teachers at TVI Actors Studio in NY back in the late ’80s.

“I’ve had the great fortune to work with directors who make me look good,” says casting director Francine Maisler, uncommonly humble for someone who’s had such a stellar year.

…After honing her skills at NBC, she was provided a springboard by Ben Stiller, who admired her work on HBO’s “The Larry Sanders Show” and recruited her to cast his first feature film, “Reality Bites,” leading to breakout indie hit “The Usual Suspects.”

…Brooks and Cameron Crowe’s next feature films, admits that while financial pressures have made “every level of filmmaking, including casting” more difficult, they haven’t lessened her enthusiasm for the job. “
