What TVI Actors Studio stated in March of 1986 has become a huge industry in NY, LA and around the work – all mistakenly telling and promoting to actors that doing casting director workshops, many with associates who just retired their unsuccessful acting career is THE best way to meet and get hired for an acting job is to do one night casting workshops!
I can not disagree more. The mission and goal of the TVI Actors Studio casting director workshops is an opportunity to see what you are doing wrong in an audition experience, so when you have an actual audition the chances of booking the role is far greater.
This is not a time to impress the casting director! This is a time to have fun, learn, take risks and best of all, workout. And, hopefully wherever you do CD workshops hopefully this is a time you can watch your colleagues make do good work, make mistakes and be given corrections – watch what other actors do right and wrong so you do not make the same mistakes!Don’t leave after your scene is done. That is plain rude to your fellow actors and you miss the educational part of why you are in the workshop in the first place.
These workshops are not auditions, (though you may feel good telling your friends they are) but of course you can tell you mother or boyfriend you just “auditioned for so and so? It really will not make a difference.
Lastly, do not try to impress the casting director , they have seen it all, All they want to do in these sessions is assist actors in making corrections and giving them an edge over the competition. Afterwards, leave the seminar and have the small talk with your dog or car back at home, and please do not follow the casting directors to their cars, etc, (unless they ask for security of assistance )
